Having not had a holiday for 3 years, my last being a trek 4 days to 'Machu Pichu' Peru, I knew it would be hard to match. I got lucky with discovering this friendly and helpful group of gorgeous Kiwis. It was just the right pace for me, every minute of every day, in everything we did. We always think we have the correct guide on any holiday, but I know we truly did get lucky, with the exceptionally strong physically and mentally, yet still gentle Lina, (who used to be a 'truckie' in NZ at one stage, and a Jilleroo in Oz. Wow!). Her quiet confidence, calmness and genuine care, assured us we were in good hands. We all had a great time, with much laughter from all. My favorite part was the civilized hour at the start of day, not ridiculously early, when on holidays. The breakfast was perfect for me, a healthy array of food for energy for the anticipated day ahead. How nice! I was on holidays, and really didn't want to feel I had to get out of bed before ready, heaven! I still can't say the names for the interesting places I saw, but all were wonderful in their own way, particularly the long trek to the crater. Love treking! I didnt attend the water cave activity, as I hate the cold and freeze very easily, ugh. Just not my thing. I was happy to read a book, but Lina kindly tucked me 'under her wing', without any trace of me 'taking her own personal time to have space from people'. We had a beautiful walk nearby, saw a stunning cave, then checked out the town, where there just happened to be the local annual fair/show occurring, while the others did their thing. Thank you so much Lina, it was so nice. We were looked in all things, individually if anyone needed it, which is a credit to the group as a whole. I can't tick the box to say this was 'the trip of a lifetime', as all trips I do overseas are great. But I loved it 100%, and would recommend it. I found NZ better than expected, the natural beauty of the North Island is what I call 'Wondrous', quite magical, and often. Yes I'd go on another trip with the Active Group anytime, especially with lovely Lina! Maybe the South Island next time I think. It's nice to dream.

The Rimu is a fabulous way to sample the diversity of experiences and scenery that make up the South Island. We were on a custom trip for two couples with one guide, Dan. Dan was terrific. He helped us carry extra weight when we faltered on the Cascade Track, was so attentive that when I mentioned I liked licorice he had some for snacks the next day, quickly learned how much we love fruit and kept the fruit basket filled, drove well and safely, and was unfailingly cheerful and flexible. Really loved the Angelus Circuit and the hike to Sealy Tarns and beyond to get spectacular views of Aoraki. I highly recommend this trip.

It's hard to put into a few words the wonderful trip we shared with Mike and Ellie in the South Island. We continue to talk about it to our friends and family. We traversed a lot of territory in a relatively short period of time, saw amazing scenery, got up close and personal with your marvellous country and overall had an amazing vacation. Our group was also very compatible, which of course added to the good times. A lot of laughter, a lot of shared experiences, very well taken care of. Can't recommend the trip, Mike and Ellie and Active Adventures New Zealand enough.

We really enjoyed our Kauri trip to New Zealand. The trip leaders, Lina and Jaclyn were excellent: well organized and always willing to go the extra mile to make the trip better. I would recommend this trip to anyone who is interested in an active small group trip to New Zealand.

Active South America Condor trip February 23, 2013 Punta Arenas is almost 8,000 miles from my home in Washington State. It is roughly the same parallel south as I live north on the planet. I arrive at this "furthest south city on Earth" in late summer. I return to my home on the first day of spring 2 weeks later. That's how far away from my own beautiful back yard is some of the most incredible landscape I have ever seen. Patagonia wasn't on the top of my bucket list. But I am a mountain girl, a wilderness ranger at heart, and the Condor trip filled up a major depletion of mountain adventure. I'm not one to travel in groups, but I must say Active has packaged this trip with just the right amount of group fun and outdoor adventure - even for the serious individualist. Cynthia did magic with her seamless behind-the-scenes coordination. Somehow, buses were on time, baggage got transferred, meals were ready, mountains came out of the clouds at all the right times, condors soared, glaciers calved, and smiles were plentiful. Well, maybe Cynthia can't take all the credit, but she did make that offering to Pachamama on our first day hiking to Torres del Paine. Regarding that part I said about wilderness ranger at heart and rugged individualist, I would definitely make it clear that this trip is no walk in the park. I may be an aging baby boomer and I was certainly carrying an extra few holiday pounds, but Active's Condor description about needing no previous hiking experience might give some people the wrong impression. I'm sure Jai and Cynthia would carry us on their backs if they had to, but most of us want to avoid that kind of humiliation. I was quite surprised to find that water was clean and drinkable almost everywhere we went on the trip. That and the fresh produce was a huge bonus. Here in the U.S. we have gotten in the habit of filtering water even in wilderness. As for the food, Cynthia has conducted a thorough investigation of the best restaurants in every town. I surely didn't expect to eat at such trendy or upscale establishments. The food was outstanding, although I can't believe how much meat I consumed in such a short period of time. I even ate guanaco at Cynthia's suggestion. Kudos to the guides for knowing and sharing so much about the local culture, history, geology, wildlife, and plants. When I travel I enjoy immersing myself in knowledge about the places I visit, and they graciously answered my many questions. If you want to see some amazing scenery (yes, we have the Cascade Range and the Rockies, but believe me this is nothing like you've seen in the U.S.), be pampered with super-attentive guided service, eat well, sleep well, and make new friends all at once then this is your trip. My only disappointment was missing the penguins on the last day, but nature doesn't always play fair. Oh, and I'd drop that funny little mountain biking trip around the Milodon caves. Seems like it wasn't much juice for the squeeze. Happy trails, Barbara Kenady-Fish

Wow, what an amazing adventure trip! Active NZ does a great job choreographing the itinerary to make the tour action packed. My two favorite locations were Siberia Valley and Queenstown, NZ. Dan and Elle were excellent guides and cooks, and we all enjoyed spending time with them and learning the Kiwi culture. My favorite meal prepared by the Active Chefs was the BBQ at Lake Manapouri within Fiordland National Park. The accommodations were much appreciated after a busy day ... from a hut in Siberia Valley to the Crowne Plaza, nicely done. Finally, it was fun to spend a week with other "trampers" from all over the world ... awesome group! You will be happy you booked with Active NZ!

Kathy's Rimu Adventure: The Rimu trip was beyond my expectations, from our safe and efficient transportation, our friendly guides, the delicious and healthy meals, the unique and comfortable accommodations and of course the rugged beauty of the South Island! Highly recommend for the adventurous and less "touristy" types!

Admittedly, I figured this would be my first and last trip to New Zealand. I wanted to make sure it was the greatest. Active New Zealand not only surpassed my expectations, but it just hooked me completely. I'm already saving my pennies for the next adventure, but it's extraordinarily difficult to be patient! New Zealand, as a whole, has always been a bit of mysterious country. Of course, everyone has heard of the kiwi bird and the unique culture and landscape, but there are rarely any finer details. So it was truly a blessing to come on this trip. Kauri, in my opinion, is the perfect taster for New Zealand. You get a little bit of the coast, the mountains, the forests but also the culture and the history. I'd highly recommend it to anyone uncertain about what to do in New Zealand. I came knowing only that I wanted to come but not having much of an idea past that. Now I have all of these ideas for future trips and terrific memories of the past one. I actually have a separate bucket list, just for New Zealand, because it's just that special of a place and truly no place else comes close.

I had high expectations for this trip as New Zealand has a wonderful image. I also had high expectations for Active as a colleague of mine has done two trips and was highly complimentary. Still, the trip surpassed my dreams. I was stunned by the New Zealand visuals, impressed by the knowledge of our guided and warmed by the friendliness and compassion of the guides as they sought to accommodate the needs of the eager hikers and the tourists. All the logistics were virtually invisible. We were left with great activity, huge fun on Bert (the bus), and technically competent guides. Food and lodging were great, loved the fresh fruit Bert provided! Would highly commend Active! Duck and Elle were very complimentary and independently interesting, helpful, and competent.

First off I had a great time!!!!!!! This trip was one of a kind. The guides Dave and Sarah where very professional and I had a great time with them on this trip. GOOD JOB, Dave and Sarah!!!! This was one of my most enjoyable trips that I have taken so far in my life. I love the scenery and the hiking was A-ONE. I would recommend this trip and New Zealand to all my friends in Canada. I will be planning to return to New Zealand again for sure. It was hard leaving everyone after the trip was done. You get close to all the people on the tour and saying goodbye is hard. My photos hardly do the country any justice. Pictures and words just cannot tell you truly beautiful the country is. I have so many memories of this trip. All I can say that I will be coming back!!!!!!!!! Cheers from CANADA....

Patagonia, the territory of Chile and Argentina, sounded a bit unsettling to me. One concern was not being able to speak spanish and fear of the unknown. Also a concern was of course the safety of one traveling in another country. All that being said, I was pleasantly surprised. There must have been a God with us as I could not have asked for anything more magnificent. The people on the trip were fantastic, scenery, weather, food, and on and on. One hopes to do these trips and just get through them, but this trip there was so much more I brought back to Pa. with me, than any other trip I have been on. Hopefully I, as a fellow human being, also touched someone along the way. That's what it is all about!
