Activity packed tour. Our guides who were more like guides, friends, cooks, handy persons, and chauffeurs, made it possible to rise early, have active days, crash late and repeat with out wearing us out.

Trip was marvelous - sights and history were spectacular. Accommodation and food were super for such a family trip; our guides made it a lot of fun for the kids and put up with the antics of the adults. A trip that was enjoyable with very few disappointments. I would recommend all windows to have screens on them!

Dec 23 2012 Tui Queenstown Trip. Both Amelia and Amanda T were great guides. They knew the information about the area and the trip was great. They both were very nice and we all enjoyed our time with them.

The Kiwi trip with Active far exceeded our expectations. New Zealand is stunningly beautiful (even more than we thought), the weather was fabulous, and our guide, Lina, was terrific. Lina knocked herself out to ensure that we were comfortable and had great experiences. She went far out of her way to accommodate our various dietary requirements and preferences. She paid close attention to our questions and interests, and made sure to get us answers and show us things we wanted to see.

This trip was very well organized, and yet had the flexibility to react to unexpected conditions – particularly weather conditions. I was really impressed with our guides, who prepared and cooked delicious well-balanced meals, drove our bus, looked after our luggage, etc. with incredible good-humour, efficiency and patience. Completely beyond any expectations I could have had!

Can't believe we did so much stuff in so short a time, The Tongariro Alpine crossing has got to be one of the best one day hikes I've ever been on, not disappointed about having to be a there-and-back walk, just a great excuse to be able to go back and do the one-way trip when it's open again. The Mountain Biking activity, wow! As a senior-ish participant, I was a little apprehensive, however Dave and Lisa from Planet Bike soon put everybody at ease and by the use of different tracks, I think we all enjoyed the time we spent at Whakarewarewa. Thank you Active, via Pieke and Mel, for actually taking the time to rearrange the last day so that we went to the Waitomo Caves and saw the glow worms instead of going to Hobbiton. I’m sure it’s very nice but again I think I can say that the whole crew really enjoyed the experience. There can’t be many tour companies that would change the itinerary like that. The only day that was a bit of a trudge was when we walked along the side of Lake Okataina, quite a long day with not very much change of scenery, especially when it was a there-and-back walk. What can I say about Pieke and Mel, they were such good companions, didn’t really feel like guides, more like friends showing us around. They worked very hard keeping us fed and watered, top marks. I’d certainly recommend Active NZ to anybody who wants to have a guided experience of New Zealand.

I was very fortunate to have Ken and Nick as my guides. The sights were outstanding, the food was incredible, and they both made me feel secure - even in the most remote locations. I recommend the Rimu trip for anyone looking to explore this great country, while getting a good amount of exercise in.

The Weka bicycle tour of the South Island is a physical and spiritual journey through an incredibly beautiful and varied landscape. Challenging, exhilarating, inspiring, and rewarding – all the things we seek in an active vacation. Ben and Kate were excellent guides and did a superb job in giving us all a very special and memorable Kiwi experience.

This was a great trip. The only downside was the weather, above average rain and very high rivers, but we have to blame Mother Nature, not Active NZ! Our guides Dave and Nicole were absolutely fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!! They always had a "plan B" for the weather. The scenery in Mt. Aspiring National Park was to die for, especially from the bush plane trip in. The rain seriously interupted our hikes at Makarora and Ben Lemond in Queenstown, so I can't comment on them. Milford sound was really spectacular, and I love to sea kayak, so the morning there was really fun. I REALLY can't say enough about Dave and Nicole. They are the nicest people, and very competent and good at managing groups with all the usual group dynamics! Thanks for a great trip, I'll be back!

I very much enjoyed this trip. After a slow start on the kayaking option due to rainy weather, we quickly picked up steam and enjoyed the lovely NZ landscapes though a mix of strenuous and relaxing activities. The trip was well organized and executed, the food generally good and sometimes great, and I met many interesting people and shared good stories. While I have suggested a few improvements that would make the trip even better, I want to thank Active New Zealand for a great experience. And...oh yes...I took 2200 pictures!

This was a great trip. The air and water temperature was perfect. We saw lots of sea lions, marine iguanas, sea turtles, and giant tortoises. Our guide, Jessica, was outstanding. She was kind, patient, and very knowledgeable. The landscape was very beautiful.

Ben and Nick couldn't have been more accommodating to the needs of the group. And the behind-the-scenes support from the home office was visible from day 1 when a bridge on our route was washed out, but a helicopter was there to take us across the river. A new van was waiting on the other side, driven there over many hours by a staff member so that we could continue on our journey. We had a couple of other weather-related complications, and in each case, adjustments to the schedule were made so that our adventure was not compromised in the least. Ben and Nick made it all look so easy -- from providing our meals to getting us up and down the mountains and in and out of the motels -- but it seemed to me they must be working 20 hours a day to have everything work so seamlessly. They really hustled! Kudos to everyone at Active New Zealand.

And that is coming from someone who went into this trip thinking she'd probably just do the minimum amount of road cycling each day, skip the off-road days and maybe do some running instead. After all, I'd spent much of last year recuperating from an Achilles rupture, had not really trained to ride more than 2-3 consecutive days and didn't really like off-road stuff anyway. HA!

Once some first day surprises were figured out (some folks had brought bikes that were not anticipated so there were some space issues), it was non-stop action and fun the whole way with our awesome guides Lofty & Kate. They had an amazing aptitude to turn lemons into lemonade the couple days it rained and when a few bike mechanical issues arose. With their in-depth local knowledge and experience, great stories and jokes, they transformed a group of strangers into good friends and made bus rides entertaining. They motivated me to try new things and do things I'd shied away from for years. The result? I rode nearly every mile we were given the option to do, ran and hiked an additional 30 miles and, believe it or not, the highlight of the trip for me was actually riding up and over Danseys Pass off-road!

Add to that spectacular scenery and fabulous food, and you've got a winning combination that makes living in Hawaii seem downright boring. I can't wait to get back to NZ again someday and hopefully with some friends from my local cycling group so they can be blown away too!

The trip started off slow on the first day due to some miscommunications about who was bringing bikes and what type they were. While it took some time, it was the first of the many saves Lofty and Kate performed. They managed to get everything packed into Charlie (the bus) and the trailer and get rolling down the road. This was the first of many times that the two of them worked together to make what could have been a major problem into a positive situation. Lofty fixed my bike and several others with both minor (e.g. adjustments) and major (e.g. broken chain, bent derailleur and chain rings) problems. Adjustments to the trip caused by the weather (e.g. we were almost blown off the trailer taking off the bikes, major wind and rainstorms) and by local conditions (e.g. time constraints, route conditions) where handled quickly and to every one’s satisfaction. Kate juggled the menus to accommodate everybody’s needs and desires and made meals that were better than then what we had in the restaurants. Their upbeat attitudes, problem solving skills, and local knowledge were the key elements in making this a great trip. The only problem that wasn’t overcome on the trip was Kate’s cooking. It was so good and I ate so much that I think I put on some weight despite all the riding. If you like riding, seeing great countryside, meeting some wonderful folks, and eating (way too much at times), this is the trip for you.

Friends, Kiwis, Antipodeans! Pin back your lugholes. I came to admire New Zealand not to abuse it. They say that the good of a country is oft interred with its stones, while its bad rots on. That may be so with Britain, but let it not be so with New Zealand. What an irrelevent name! A sewer by another name would smell as sour but I would prefer NZ to be called by its original name, Aotearoa. Not that NZ smells sour. It's as sweet as... a rose, which somebody said would smell as sweet by any other name. We few, we happy few, we happy band of brothers (and sisters) had a great time. but there were two amongst us who deserve special mention. Not only did they join in almost all the activities but also drove us safely around the island and looked after us handsomely. Thank you Lina and Nats for your sterling work and for looking after me and my diet so well. You shall not be forgotten and will always be appreciated. Oh brave New Zealand that has such people living in it!
