I've looked forward to writing a review of this most magnificent trip! This was my first 'tour,' and first time away from home for so long. I LOVED every minute of it. Sarah and Huw made everything look SO easy and convenient, when I know, that beneath the surface, they were 'paddling like heck!' The weather was rainy most of the tour, on the backpack, we had rain, sleet and hail! But our group huddled together and persevered. The meals Sarah and Huw schlepped up on the mountain, were unbelievable! Even the long hours in the bus .... Huw entertained and educated us with tales of local folk lore, good music and a goodie basket always filled with fruit and granola bars. It seems that Huw and Sarah always had our needs in mind. We would conveniently stop at local towns for either a bathroom break, market great and/or to stretch our legs on some isolated beach while they put together a 5 star lunch buffet! The hell hike was worth every extra penny and the previous night's rain was an added suspense. Same with the Milford Sound kayak. After days of rain, the clouds parted and what an experience on the water. Even if it had rained, it was spectacular! Outfitting us with gear and boats, the rest was up to Mother Nature. Every single activity was well planned and supported. Safety, humor, and interest were utmost in each day! And the cooking 'Sarah is remarkable!' .... how can I EVER say enough about the three meals per day that were provided. They were accommodating (due to our individual needs/desires), timely, creative and delicious. On our 'day off,' in Queenstown, I made a point to stop by the Active Adventure office and voiced how wonderful the trip was going. Please feel free to quote me and or ask for something specific. I'll add some photos also. I've been sent brochures on other countries, other tours and other guides, but honestly ... if and when I go again, I'd choose Active New Zealand and ask for Sarah and Huw.
