A successful trip is this wonderful mixture of fellow trip members, guides, itinerary, and the behind-the-scenes folks that put it all together. When we decided to go to New Zealand we knew we wanted to do alot. We also knew if we tried to put a trip together on our own, we would return home disappointed, knowing we had missed more than we had seen. What we didn't plan on is how the group experience has a multiplier effect. Everybody brings their unique sense of humor, point of view and music to make the experience so much richer than two people trudging along a trail alone. If you want to sleep in till 10, or you don't want get dirty or wet, this is not the trip for you. However, if you want to get out of the hotel lobby and have a fantastic experience with some new found friends, Tui rocks.

The 14 day Rimu trip is a great way to experience the South Island without the stress and uncertainty of planning your own itinerary. Everyday is an adventure to be experienced with a group of like-minded people while ending each day with a hearty and delicious meal. While hiking to see a glacier, biking along a lakeshore, snorkeling with the seals, or paddling through breath taking scenery we were learning about the culture, plants, animals, and history of New Zealand. I came home with hundreds of photos and awesome memories of the trip.

What a wonderful time we had in New Zealand with Lofty & Mel. They were awesome guides and were sensitive to our every need, even the ones we didn't know we had :) The day hikes on the first week were great conditioning for the 4 days on the Milford track. The day hikes were a good combination of interesting places to see, physical challenge, and fun! The meals and accommodation were outstanding, especially since they were off the beaten path, which was exactly what we wanted and we loved tasting all the home cooked NZ fare. The best part was that we didn't have to worry with any logistics the whole time there, Lofty and Mel had where to stay, what to eat, what to see well in hand and the weather cooperated too :) It was a trip of a lifetime!

We loved everything about our Rimu trip -- the guides (Duck and Amanda) were amazing, food was plentiful and great, the activities were fantastic! We saw so much of the South Island and loved all the hiking, biking, kayaking etc. Our group was a lot of fun. We were lucky to have another family with young adult-aged kids on the trip to hang out with our 24-year-old daughter. It was great to meet and travel with other outdoor adventure oriented people. We had such a good time. Duck and Amanda made sure that everything moved along seamlessly. They were so knowledgeable about New Zealand, its culture and history as well as the nature and wildlife. Great trip!

Ken and Nicole were great hosts and worked extremely hard during the 14 days. We were unable to snorkel with seals as the weather was bad and perhaps this is the norm at this time of year? We certainly explored and went to places where other tourists would not go so that was really a good feature. Perhaps there was too much time spent in the bus but appreciate its a long way to Milford Sound ! Ken had a lot of local information and he and Nicole were great fun. Nicole prepared some great meals with the most basic of facilities. When we eat out at Punakaiki, the fish & chips were the only disappointment

Take plenty of camera memory - the views on the Condor trip are never ending! The 4 day trek (though it turned into five - even better) in Torres Del Paine National Park was the highlight - just the right mix of challenge, views, and creature comforts. All of the guides were exceptional and the two weeks went without a hitch. Cynthia did an amazing job.
Being a senior citizen, I was most pleased that I was able to keep up on all of the hiking and other activities.

This trip went above and beyond all my expectations! A new, exciting adventure and view of a lifetime at every corner. Expert planning, perfect execution, and memories to last a lifetime. The trip alone would have blown my mind, but add in the absolute IDEAL guides and you have an experience of a lifetime.

Active's South Island New Zealand tour far exceeded my expectations in terms of the extreme natural beauty in remote areas and the intense variety of daily experiences. Our group owes a lot to Dan K and Jaclyn for their inspiring leadership, caring guidance, bubbling enthusiasm, always warm and friendly, including interesting commentaries, stories and history, and the delicious healthy meals.

Thank you for a wonderful experience in my favorite country! I've been fortunate to visit New Zealand 3 times, and in this latest trip I saw much more, experienced new places, and definitely got off the beaten track. As I wrote on my Facebook page, New Zealand was a combination of California, Colorado, Idaho, Vermont and Norway, all packaged in a pristine, beautiful, relaxing environment. I looked forward to waking up each day to a new adventure.

Trip of a Lifetime. It's hard to put into words how amazing our trip was with Active New Zealand. My wife and I had heard wonderful things about New Zealand and the Kiwi locals, so our expectations were high coming into this trip. Not only were they exceeded, they were blown away. From the jaw dropping scenery to the amazing group we had, everyday was a new adventure with a lot of laughs and highlights along the way. Beyond that, our guides, DK and Jaclyn were simply incredible. Their attitudes, sense of humor, taste in music and positive outlooks on basically everything made the trip that much better. Active is lucky to have two representatives like them on your team and I genuinely mean that. DK and Jaclyn were so much fun to be around and we will for sure be looking at future Active trips, hopefully with them as guides. The Tui trip was the best week I've ever spent traveling and I am so happy to have found Active and stumbled into the group we had. It was sad to see it end but with all the great memories we will take away it's highly likely we'll see you again soon! Thanks again, Cole Dunlop PS - Jaclyn and DK are the best, make sure you let them know how much fun we had with them :)

Of course that can be said about NZ's incredible mountains and glaciers, and also about the spectacular coast line, lakes and rivers. But that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about our guides, Ken and Nicole. Awesome, truly awesome. One might expect your guides to be friendly, funny, outgoing, helpful and supportive, and certainly Ken and Nicole were all that. But that's just the beginning. One might also expect a guide to know a fair amount about the geology, vegetation and wildlife of a country, but the scope and depth of Ken's knowledge was utterly amazing. As we traveled from region to region, and indeed from valley to valley, Ken would have a story, frequently many stories: something unique about the birds or trees or rocks or brush in this valley; or something insightful and fascinating about an historical, cultural or political event that had a lasting impact on this community or completely altered the social, political or economic fortunes of that region. This information would just spill out spontaneously as Ken was driving along. No need to consult a guidebook or carefully prepared notes. The names and dates and events would casually roll off his tongue as he down-shifted his way through yet another hairpin bend in the highway. And Nicole; what a sweetheart. Constantly vigilant about ways to make a person's day a little bit better. She knew every person's food allergies, but went on to try to elicit everyone's likes and dislikes. Frequently additional dishes were added to meals to provide alternatives to main courses that some couldn't or preferred not to eat. She devoted the same careful and considerate attention to sleeping arrangements, apparently mindful that some of us older travelers were likely to suffer from nature's annoying nocturnal summons to the toilet. The toilet trips couldn't be avoided, but Nicole's room assignments for us always managed to minimize their inconvenience and discomfort. And what a cook! The best meals of the trip were those prepared by Nicole. The Rimu trip was great, and it certainly was active. I haven't slept as well in years even though we had new and unfamiliar beds just about every night. Our days were long, but not nearly as long as those for the guides. They started around 6:00 AM getting the coffee and tea out for the early risers in the group. And frequently they were still going after 9:00 PM, cleaning up after dinner when most of us travelers had already gone to bed. And there was no such thing as a mid-day coffee or work break for either of them. They had to be exhausted, but they always had smiles and cheerful, encouraging and energetic words for each of us. Awesome, truly awesome.
