What has been your most inspiring adventure experience?
Spending two months in Peru was a life-changing experience for me. It was my first time leaving the U.S., and everything — from the vibrant culture to the breathtaking landscapes — felt fresh and full of meaning. I was constantly amazed by the towering Andes, the lush Amazon, and the deep sense of history in places like Machu Picchu and Cusco. The food, the language, and the warm-hearted people challenged me in all the right ways, pushing me outside my comfort zone. More than anything, the experience helped me learn a lot about myself — what matters to me, how I adapt, and just how much more there is to discover in the world. It completely shifted my perspective.
What's your favorite Active Adventures trip, and why?
The Kenai Fjords Adventure — it's my own backyard!
When did you first get the travel bug?
When I was 21, I joined AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps), a decision that took me far beyond the world I knew growing up in New York. Traveling across the Midwest with my team, I volunteered in communities that welcomed us with open arms, working on projects that truly made a difference. It was my first real experience living and working outside my home state — and it opened my eyes. I began to see just how much more there was beyond my comfort zone, and how stepping into the unknown could lead to real growth and meaningful connection.
Why did you want to become a guide with Austin Adventures?
With summers off from teaching, I was looking for more than just a way to fill the time or earn a paycheck. I wanted a job that felt rewarding — something that would energize me, spark inspiration, and give me the chance to make a positive impact on others. It wasn’t just about earning money; it was about finding purpose in how I spent my days.
What destination would you most like to travel to (that you haven't been to yet)?
Ireland and Scotland — as these are my ancestral roots.
Do you have any favorite hobbies or special talents you could tell us about?
My favorite hobbies include reading fictional series, playing chess, and going for runs with my dog.
